We had been hopeful that the severity of the coronavirus crisis would diminish by September and we might still be able to hold our reunion, with some safety precautions in place. But as everyone knows, the virus continues to be widespread and remains especially risky for seniors and those with underlying medical conditions.
While we have all come to treasure the time we spend together during our reunions, we must keep everyone's health and safety as our number one concern. At this point, there are just too many uncertainties and potential risks, and therefore the USS Emmons Association Board of Directors has regretfully decided to cancel our 2020 Emmons Reunion. This decision was reached only after discussion with the officers and Legacy Committee members. Although the current environment made it an easy decision, it’s not one we wish to ever be faced with again.
In lieu of the cancelled reunion, discussion is underway regarding an online Virtual USS Emmons Reunion this fall to honor our lost Emmons shipmates, recognize our Griffin/Emmons scholarship recipients and more. Information will be provided here on our website and our August newsletter.
