The Legacy Committee is excited to share that conservator Virginia Whelan has completed her preservation work on the USS Emmons battle flag and commissioning pennant. These historic artifacts were retrieved from the Emmons by shipmate Edward Tostanoski, Sr., during the attack at Okinawa, April 6, 1945.

The flag tells a powerful and heroic story – bearing witness to the intensity of that battle and enduring the loss of 60 brave souls. Its preservation ensures that the story of the Emmons will continue to be shared for generations to come.

The Association thanks the Tostanoski family for placing this valuable piece of Emmons history in our care and thank you to all who provided your generous support in covering the cost.
