The Emmons families are grateful for the ongoing honor and respect shown by our Okinawa friends through their memorial dive commemorating the sacrifice made by the 60 shipmates lost 6 April 1945. 12 divers participated in this year's memorial. Not among the 12, however, was our friend Chuck DeCesari, who helped lead these memorial dives for many years. Chuck passed away unexpectedly November 2024.

From Kurt Reese:

The seas were calm, the water was cold and the rain was…….wet.

Brandi Ebach sourced the material for and assembled the beautiful wreath with very little notice.

A solemn occasion in remembrance of the lost sailors from the EMMONS but even more so today as this was the first Anniversary event in over 20 years without our great friend Charles A. “Chuck” DeCesari. Just as the legacy of the EMMONS lives on, so to does Chuck’s legacy of respect and professionalism through his son William. Our ability to visit the ship on a regular basis and document its condition from month to month and year to year will continue for the foreseeable future.

Where Chuck was a “presence” that was vocal and larger than life, his son is quiet and reserved but just as observant and vigilant when divers are in the water.

Long live The USS EMMONS and long live the memory of our friend Chuck.
